Commemorating End of an Era

KnowledgeByte Main Image

Our client, The Boeing Company, was one of the pioneering firms that helped to develop and implement the Space Shuttle Program. As the final Space Shuttle touched down last summer, Photomation was busy assembling frames containing all 135 commemorative pins created for each launch.

Centered around a majestic image of a Space Shuttle launch, these 135 pins were individually placed in launch order around the two mats used in each frame. Special plates were printed for Boeing employees who had played a significant role throughout the 30-year span of Shuttle launches.

To create precision placement of each commemorative launch pin a template was created and a numbering scheme was prepared to ensure each pin was placed in its proper place. Each frame took about two hours to set each of the 135 pins.

These commemorative pin frames were works of art when they were finished and a fine tribute to mark the end of an era in space flight.

Wall of Honor

KnowledgeByte Main Image

Our client, The Boeing Company, wanted to create a display to honor fellow company employees who served in the armed forces. Boeing designer Jim Santoni, Art Director Shared Services, working with Francisco Flores, Account Manager at Photomation, worked on creating a unique “Wall of Heroes” display.

Digital wallcovering, 3M 180C with 8520 laminate, was added to the back wall to create the backdrop where gold brushed aluminum dimensional letters on ½″ thick black sintra were used for the title. Five military seals were printed as Digitalmaster™ Prints and face mounted to ½″ thick, beveled edge and flame polished acrylic circles. The seals included ½″ clear acrylic cleats to create a floating look on the wall.

Three acrylic boxes, each with a locking mechanism to secure the displayed contents were fabricate. Two boxes were 48″×40″ and one was 18″×36″.  The smaller one was used to display the medals of honor by creating a system of felt cloth on stretcher bars to hang and display the medals.

The 48″×40″ acrylic box on the right side included a double print of the US flag, one print was mounted on 15 ml styrene and was cut out to the exact shape of the name tags using our Zund digital die cutting machine to keep the name tags uniform and straight. A second print mounted on ⅛″ sintra was utilized as a backing and both boards were mounted together.

The wall has received many great reviews and has been a great way to honor the men and women from this Boeing facility who faithfully served in the U.S. armed forces.

True 4G Speed

KnowledgeByte Main Image

Our client, Green Coast Industries, needed their recently painted racing vehicle wrapped for CES in Las Vegas. Our challenge was we got the files on Thursday and they needed to leave on Monday for the show. Working with their Photomation Account Executive Louis Sotomayor, the client provided files and a layout of what they wanted their vehicle to look like.

Our production crew got the files and began prepping them for printing and digital contour cutting. The job was printed on Thursday, laminated and contour cut on Friday. Application tape was applied on Saturday and the job was installed on Sunday. The vehicle arrived at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday and left at 1:00 p.m.

Now that is true 4G speed!
