Historical Interest

Our client, Southland Credit Union, added a new branch in Garden Grove and wanted to weave the city’s rich and diverse history into its newly refreshed branch office. Having worked closely with Francisco Flores from Photomation on such endeavors in the past, the Marketing department at Southland turned to Francisco for help in bringing their vision to reality.

The Credit Union wanted to integrate historical photos of Garden Grove into the branch layout, but didn’t want to simply hang pictures or create a timeline. Working with Francisco, they decided to use a key design feature of the branch, a plain interior soffit, and wrap it with a collage of images with a slight sepia finish. After sifting through photos courtesy of the Garden Grove Historical Society, the graphic designers at Photomation created a layout that highlighted key structures or events from Garden Grove’s past. As long-time residents of the community visit the branch, they are delighted to recognize many of the old boulevards and landmarks. In fact, one local business owner identified the original building his current business operates in! This new heritage wall, a collaboration of the talents of Southland Credit Union and Photomation is a small give back to the community of Garden Grove, stop by and take a look for yourself!

Southland Credit Union, headquartered in Los Alamitos, is a not-for-profit cooperative financial institution that serves more than 40,000 members in Orange County, surrounding gateway cities, and Downtown Los Angeles. Outdoor Signage With Interest

KnowledgeByte Main Image

Our client, Southland Credit Union, purchased the Garden Grove Branch of Fullerton Community Bank, adding a fifth full-service branch to the Credit Union’s ever-expanding branch network. The acquisition of the branch was part of the Credit Union’s strategic direction of expanding its reach into the Orange County market.  To maximize the Credit Union’s premium corner location, the Credit Union worked with Francisco Flores from Photomation in designing new signage that best highlights and promotes the branch. Originally outfitted with dated light box lettering and placed in locations with poor line of sight, the new signage had to refresh the branch’s look with the Credit Union’s dynamic brand and increase the branch’s visibility.

The first choice was to replace the light box with 3-D channel letters. Moving away from the norm, each letter is lit with LEDs that are brighter and create a ‘glow’ effect around each letter and have better durability and longevity than traditional lights. A translucent vinyl was used for each of the letters to allow the light from the LEDs to shine through, further enhancing the colors and visibility in low light conditions. The second move was to strategically place the new signs in new, ‘higher’ locations that are visible from the main traffic routes. The new placement vastly improved the branch’s presence and made it easier to locate and identify.
