Form Follows Function

Our client, Montanio Design, came to us with an idea that needed a creative solution. The design team’s vision was to create a functional tack board that would be aesthetically pleasing. This new board was being created for the new children’s wing at UC Davis Medical Center.

Montanio Design conceived the poppy concept and we worked with them to select an image that would translate well for this unique application. A prototype piece was created for the client to approve.

In the final piece, the tack board trim was painted to the client’s specifications. Using a combination of Dreamscape canvas wallcovering and ½″ thick acoustical soundboard material we assembled the actual tack board. For a precision fit, both the trim piece and the soundboard were trimmed out using a digital die cutting machine.

The end result is something truly unique that has both form and function.

Engineered Solutions

Our client, Agilent Technologies, Inc., needed a creatively engineered solution. When you're an industrial designer for a Fortune 500 company and you're entering your designs into an international design competition in Germany, who are you going to trust to meet the rigorous German standards and get the entries there safe and on time? … Photomation!

That's just what Gilbert Lemke from Agilent Technologies, Incorporated in Santa Clara did.“The turnaround time was very tight. I know that Photomation produces top quality work, so I trusted them with this very important job.” Lemke said.

Five images being submitted needed to be printed, mounted and labeled to meet contest specifications. One of Gilbert's requirements was that all the packaging needed to be “Eco-Friendly” yet strong enough to make the journey to Germany.

We engineered a custom cardboard container using our Zund digital die-cutter. “Nine layers of cardboard were cut and assembled one on top of the other to create a cardboard crate that could house the mounted prints,” explains Brian Mundy, V.P. of Digital Imaging. The mounted prints were individually wrapped with brown paper for additional protection and snugly fitted into the crate to ensure that nothing would shift during transportation halfway around the world. A call from Germany confirmed everything arrived safely and in time to be included in the competition!

Whether you're entering an international competition that requires very specific packaging to safely deliver your prized entries to the right country in time for the judging, or you just need to get it to your event safely, Photomation can be your best partner and most reliable assistant in meeting and beating all expectations.
