From Cluttered to Clean

KnowledgeByte Main Image

Our client, Mission Hospital, and their design firm, Ware Malcomb, needed Photomation to create and install uniform regulatory signage throughout their entire facility. This process entailed creating over 150 individual plexiglass pieces complete with center-mounted, magnetic-backed graphics and brushed aluminum standoffs.

Our magnetized graphic concept allows the facility to save money by quickly changing out a graphic rather than having to purchase a whole new plexiglass assembly.

Prior to this renovation, the hospital had a wide variety of regulatory signage that did not match and were not uniform in size, font or look. The new signage gives all of the walls in the hospital an updated and fresh look. The walls were transformed from cluttered to clean.

Muy Bueno Graphics

Our client, El Cholo Restaurants, met with their Photomation ‘Graphic-Guru’ Mike Mertz, to look for solutions to reproduce their historic photographs and use them as art for their original flagship restaurant founded in 1923.

Seven pieces were scanned hi-res and files were sent to our client for approval. After further discussion, image tests and client approval, we imaged the graphics on canvas material.  Next, a protective laminate was applied and each piece was stretched on a special hard-faced two-inch stretcher frame. The result is a stunning display of history spanning nearly 90 years in Los Angeles.

You can savor the original Mexican flavor and dining elegance by visiting El Cholo Restaurant in their historic location at 1121 S. Western, Los Angeles, CA.  And while you are there, take time to look at the muy bueno graphics hanging on the wall.

SkyOne Takes Flight

Our client, FAA First Federal Credit Union, changed their name to SkyOne Federal Credit Union. The name change reflects their focus on serving the air transportation industry and their commitment to the credit union’s member-owners.

Astrid Rives, Chief Marketing Officer for SkyOne, contacted Photomation to changeover all of their signage for the credit union’s three branches and their Administrative Headquarters in Hawthorne, California.

We replaced all their indoor and outdoor signage including parking lot signs, employee entrance signage and conference room signage. The building sign and the street monument sign were enlarged 50% from the original size.

The corporate logo is 148" long and cut out of 1.5" black sintra and painted. The dimensional reception desk logo is brushed aluminum on ½" black Sintra. Precise color matching was important to the client and we were able to match Pantone colors that were provided to us.

SkyOne Federal Credit Union has locations in Renton, Washington, Hawthorne, California and Lawndale, California.

Largest Canvas Installation

KnowledgeByte Main Image

Our client, Pinnacle Exhibits, needed graphics for their client’s lunchroom atrium. Our task was to create 4 - 72″ × 96″ stretched canvas wrapped graphics and install them in alcoves located 25′ in the air.  We also produced one 120″ × 160″ wall covering graphic to be installed high on a wall. Working with their Photomation Account Executive, Mike Mertz, a planning and strategy meeting was held in the atrium to confirm sizes and weekend installation logistics.

After approvals and final printing of the large canvas pieces, we needed to build custom stretcher bars to support the large graphic.  Using specially made stretching tools, we carefully wrapped the canvas graphic onto each frame. We then installed a safety wire to keep the graphic secure in case of an earthquake.

Using a 26′ scissor lift, our installers hoisted each graphic, secured them into place using a long wooden block and attached the safety wire. This process was repeated four times for each graphic.

This project was, by far, our largest canvas pieces we have created. The graphics transformed the atrium space into a showcase of the end client’s products. The next time you have a graphics project up in the air, give us a call. You’ll be floored at what we can do for you!
